Joni Mitchell's Mingus album, a seminal recording in the jazz vocal world was one of the most loved and influential recordings in Caro Manins' early musical life.
Mingus composed 6 songs for Mitchell who writes, "It was as if I had been standing by a river, one toe in the water, feeling it out and Charlie came by and pushed me in - sink or swim - him laughing at me dog paddling around in the currents of black classical music".
Mingus got to hear all the songs except for 'God Must Be a Boogie Man', which was completed two days after his death.
Caro Manins brings this project to CJC as a homage to the great man and the great lady, and with a killing band of Manins, Crayford, McArthur and Samsom.
