New York composer Jonathan Besser performs his wonderful GIMEL suite at the Creative Jazz Club.

'Gimel Music' is wildly romantic, energetically sad, zestful and tuneful music. Gimel music features 'methods of counterpoint', that Besser learned at the 'Mannes College of Music' in 1970's New York City. Now these old ideas mix it up with improvisation.

All the suites in Besser's 'Gimel series' have one thing in common Three. 'Gimel' is the third letter in ancient Hebrew Alphabet. It's Besser's intentions to approach composing all the Gimel music Suites thinking conceptually, using the number three as the guiding 'musical form' (bringing three to the fore). Such as: Three Bar phrases, three Chords (with three inversions) repeating, in 3/4 timings etc. Besser says that he's liberating his Gimel music from music's more common 'square' 4 bar Phrases, in 4/4 timing.

Besser's 6 piece band the 'Zestniks' have been performing together for well over a year. The 'Gimel 1 suite' has already been toured nationally in 2012 and was performed in the Sydney at the 'Shir Madness Jewish Music festival'.

These days the Zestniks 'personnel' are always 'up dating' themselves - keeping the music fresh and vibrant. Vocalist Carolina Moon takes us into a different orbit.
